If we don’t set an end date, isn’t that by definition an open-ended commitment?

It’s all just word hickerydoo. He might have phrased it better, but I think the Bush administration is preparing Iraq for our eventual pullout. Everyone knew we wouldn’t be there forever, so that comment was likely intended to show Americans that Bush sees some indefinite point in the future when we’ll pull out–so we won’t think he’s a COMPLETE maniac.
