Well, not yet. But I did pass my test and I’ve been recommended for naturalization. I should get an appointment for the oath ceremony within 90 days

Told ya I could take care of it. Well, I didn’t get it *all* off, but I only got to the gym twice — Monday and this morning.
Going to the gym was pretty much impossible last week, since we only had one car. Combine that with how sore I’ve been, and spending 45-60 minutes on a treadmill was not an appealing thought.
However, last Saturday, we got our new car so I can start hitting the gym on my regular schedule. I went on Monday night, and did 30 mins at 3 - 3.5 mph. I didn’t go much longer, since I still have a significant amount of leg pain in my right leg. Tuesday night I was going to go after pool, but had some work to do before the morning, so I just went home and did that. This morning I went for 60 minutes, 45 at 3 mph and 15 at 2. I want to stretch things out, but I’m my shin is too bruised for me to use the stretching equipment. I’ll get back into the swing of things before too long.
I did get my new Weight Watchers materials today. They’ve changed the program again — I’m not sure what’s up with all the tweaks. Now, instead of a simple weight/points chart, it’s a series of factors. You start with your gender (2 points for women, 8 points for men, 12 points for nursing mothers — I’m not sure why women get the short shrift there). The next factor is your age, I fall in the 3 point group — I don’t remember the exact groups. Next up, the first two digits of your weight, in my case 33. That puts me at 44 which is the maximum points allowed, so I stopped reading, but you can earn more points per day if your daily life involves more work than just sitting down all day. Previously, I had 34 points per day allowed, with a 35 point weekly overage. I’d pretend that 35 didn’t exist, and I’m going to continue to do that, since there’s no way I want to be consuming 44 points per day — that’s a lot.
So, I’ll keep on doing what I’m doing, since it seems to be working.
Onwards!
Twice in the past two days, articles on the diamond industry have popped up in my reading sessions. I’d thought about the inherent inequities in the diamond industry (likewise in the gold and other precious metals industries) and came to a conclusion.
I’m not foolish enough to think I can live my life without ever supporting companies or industries with abhorrent working conditions or unjustifiable profit margins — not without moving into a cabin in the woods.
But, I can decide to stop supporting ones that are so unessential and so blatant that it’s a no-brainer. So no more diamond purchases here. Admittedly, I can’t claim to have purchased many, but it wasn’t none, and that’s what I’ll shoot for now.
First WW meeting in a month. I gained. This was not a surprise — I expected to gain. I had a two week vacation, and it’s been almost a month since I’ve been to the gym. I wanted to start up again with the gym on Monday, but I’m still too sore from the accident. I’ll get the stuff I gained off before next meeting. I’ll start up the gym again on Monday. This is something I’m going to get fixed. No big deal.
Speaking of the accident, it’s official. The car’s a write-off. I’m going car shopping tonight after work. We’ll see what I get.
Short story: I had a car accident today. Got smashed into by a pickup truck while I was making a left turn - obliterated the right side of the car. I can handle that. The part that gets me is that’s where Tisha was sitting We think she’s alright, but they’re taking X-Rays now to be sure.
So I’m waiting here while they do her X-Rays. Again, she says she’s fine, but I wanted to be sure. I couldn’t handle it if she was hurt.
The fact that we’re pretty much okay is a testament to how well built the VW Jetta is. I swear, it was just like those commercials you see on TV. If I wasn’t so paranoid, she’d have crawled out on her own, and we’d be standing by the car muttering “Holy Sh…” just like in the ads.
Pretty sure the car is totalled. We’ll see.
I’ll post more when I know more, but again, I’m pretty sure everyone’s okay (else I’d not be sitting here writing about it casually in a blog).
Sigh.
UPDATE: Follow-up to the previous post. Tisha’s okay, just sore (passenger side of the car took the impact, and she was the passenger). My leg will have a nasty bruise from where the center console hit it (the car’s a mess, trust me).
But, in all, we’re walking away from this one with some scrapes and bruises. And are VERY lucky to be doing so.
